ECOTEC Technological University has experienced an accelerated growth since its foundation in 2007 up to now (2015), reflected on the number of registered students, the array of majors offered, and the recent opening of its new and modern campus in the Samborondon area of Guayaquil (2014). This growth exerts pressure over the organization structure of the university to maintain and improve its quality of education, having started in the “tecnológico” category (equivalent to a community college), but now aiming towards becoming one of the premier higher-education institutions in Guayaquil and also Ecuador. Amongst the actions taken towards this goal is the agreement signed with the Consortium for Nother American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC), composed of universities and colleges from 180 countries, and that has the purpose of fostering educational interchanges of students and faculty. Being part of CONAHEC has put additional pressure on ECOTEC given that the foreign members have already requested the effective application of the agreement, that is, to start the interchanges right away. In particular the universities from South Korea have been the most vocal regarding initiating the educational collaboration, and indeed they took the initiative sending their first student to ECOTEC last year. South Korea is a country reknown for the excellence and rigour of its educational system, being this the reason behind the study presented herewith that will try to clear the most relevant questions derived from ECOTEC beginning a continuous relation with higher education institutions from said Asian country. These questions are whether ECOTEC is ready to receive students and faculty from South Korea, and also whether the students and faculty from ECOTEC are prepared to go and study courses or pursue degrees in such demanding institutions like the ones from South Korea. The answer should come from reviewing the results of a survey taken at the source, coupled with weighted analysis of reknown global college rankings that allow a fiable comparison point.
