Radiology is the medical specialty that deals with pictures of the inside of the body through different physical agents (x-ray, ultrasound, magnetic fields, etc.) and use images for diagnosis, improving the prognosis and treatment of diseases. Today, at the Clinic of Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry has been working with conventional Rx as panoramic, periapical and occlusal, being sometimes these two-dimensional images that do not provide effectively obtain accurate and objective diagnosis of the condition being treated . Faced with this dilemma we have the alternative of using computed tomography (CT), which provides a three-dimensional image of the area to be subjected surgically and achieve accurate detection of the magnitude of the problem to get a better view of the reconstructed tomographic slices in no transverse planes of patients attending clinics. The aim of this work is to make a literature review that allows dentists and specialists know the basic principles of the technique of Computed Tomography (CT) and their applicability within specialties. In the literature review concluded the growing need for precision diagnosis and dental treatment. In the development of this research's methodology is not experimental, bibliographical type, because it is based on the collection of virtual information on research papers, explanation of history, testimony of authors, foundations demanding interpretation of analysis and synthesis .
