Resumen
Los desechos generados en las instituciones de salud presentan una gran
complejidad y peligrosidad, ya que no solo involucran a los desechos comunes, sino
también, desechos infecciosos, tóxicos y radiactivos. El objetivo del presente trabajo es
minimizar la contaminación ambiental, mediante un Plan de gestión ambiental que mejore
el manejo de los desechos sólidos del personal del Hospital Teófilo (HTD), el mismo que
se basa en lo establecido para la red de servicios de salud en el Ecuador. El estudio se lo
ejecutó en dos etapas; en la primera etapa se realizó un diagnóstico del manejo de los
desechos sólidos, mediante la aplicación de planilla evaluativa y la aplicación de encuestas
a los usuarios, empleados y profesionales. Se realiza observación de los diferentes
servicios con énfasis en la limpieza en cada uno de ellos y el modo de cómo se realizan
diferentes etapas del manejo de los desechos sólidos. En la segunda etapa se plantea un
Plan ambiental de manejo de desechos sólidos en el Teófilo Dávila de Machala, adecuado
a las regulaciones de la norma vigente, “Manejo de desechos infecciosos para la red de
servicios de salud en el Ecuador”. Estudio que va a contribuir a elevar la calidad de los
servicios y seguridad laborar a los usuarios del HTD. Así como minimizar los riesgos de
contaminación ambiental de la unidad hospitalaria.

Observation of the various services is performed with emphasis on cleanliness in each mode and how different stages of solid waste management are made. In the second stage an environmental management plan of solid waste in Machala Teofilo Davila, suitable to the regulations of the current standard, "Managing infectious for health services network in Ecuador waste" arises. Study will help raise the quality of services and labor security to users HTD. And minimize the risks of environmental contamination of hospital unit.
