The population structure of Protrachypene precipua, a species of commercial importance in Ecuador, is described in four fishing zones in front of Esmeraldas (Rocafuerte, Palestina, Río Verde and Camarones) during 2011 - 2017, analyzing 3.108 individuals captured with trawl nets (changa). The analysis of the size structure, sexual proportion and size, length/weight ratio and condition factor was performed. It was established that the females are the largest and the first to enter the vulnerable population of this fishery. In the sexual proportion, no significant differences were found; while the growth of this species was different between sexes: allometric in females and isometric in males, which would be influenced by the warm temperatures that were recorded in front of Esmeraldas. In addition, synchrony occurred in the physiological processes of P. precipua.
