Resumen : Introducción: Los tumores tiroideos tienen la incidencia más alta de los tumores de todas las glándulas endocrinas en los humanos. (Livolsi, 2010) El 90-95% de los nódulos tiroideos son benignos y asintomáticos, por lo que no es recomendable hacer screening de nódulos tiroideos en la población general. (Ministerio de Salud Publica de Chile, 2013) Materiales y métodos: Se tomó una muestra de 50 pacientes con diagnóstico de tumor tiroideo del área de hospitalización y de consulta externa del Hospital Abel Gilbert Pontón de Guayaquil. Fueron examinados por los médicos cirujanos del Hospital. Resultados: Se encontró que de 110 pacientes estudiados solo 50 presentaron datos de laboratorio completos sugeridos por protocolos y algoritmos diagnósticos internacionales, a pesar de eso el 100% de pacientes no presento complicaciones pese a no ser diagnosticado con precisión los tumores tiroideos antes del tratamiento elegido. De los pacientes de la muestra el método de diagnóstico elegido con mayor eficacia fue el de la ecografía que apenas el 24% de ellos requirió otro examen complementario como la PAAF para diagnosticar con precisión el tipo de tumor tiroideo. Patient sample diagnostic method was chosen more effectively the ultrasound that only 24% of them required another complementary examination as FNA to accurately diagnose the type of thyroid tumor.
