INTRODUCTION: Preeclampsia is a progressive multisystemic disorder that exclusively affects pregnancy, complicating them globally by 5 to 8%. Considering a true public health problem, it is crucial to know the prevalence of the disease and its associated risk factors, in order to try to reduce maternal-fetal morbi-mortality through early diagnosis and prenatal counseling. OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of preeclampsia in the Maternal and Child Hospital Matilde Hidalgo during the period 2014 - 2015. METHODS: Quantitative, retrospective, observational, cross - sectional and analytical study, carried out through the clinical records of patients with preeclampsia during 2014 - 2015. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of preeclampsia during 2014-2015 was 12.85% (788 registered cases), of which 493 (8.04%) cases occurred in 2014 and in 2015 there were 295 (4.81%) cases, . The maternal age in the study was 12 to 35 years, being the most relevant from 16 to 19 years in 25.35% (125 cases) distributed in 49 mild and 76 severe. Also in 2015 the maternal age of relevance was 20 to 23 years (21.02%) and from 32 to 35 years (20.34%). According to the ethnic group the one of greater incidence is the black one in 31, 64% (year 2014) and 42.37% (year 2015). In the parity level, the multiparas relieved 63.49% (year 2014) and 57.97% (year 2015). The gestational age given at the end of pregnancy, the highest percentage was preterm and preterm delivery in 38.75% (mild) and 77.36% (severe) during 2014 and in 2015 was term delivery (39, 38% mild) and preterm extreme (84.21% severe). According to the neonatal weight in 2014 was adequate in 57.81% and 54.92% in 2015. According to the type of delivery, the most relevant was the dystocic in 52.9% in 2014 and 56% in the 2015 given in severe preeclampsia. CONCLUSIONS: According to the study carried out and based on the results given, it is concludes that the prevalence of preeclampsia was 12.85%, thus fulfilling the desired goal. RECOMMENDATIONS: To have updated scientific bases on the disease and its main predisposing risk factors to be in accordance with the established norms and protocols, which will allow us an adequate and timely management of this pathology, avoiding complications.
