The purpose of the research was to raise awareness both of the diabetic population and of medical personnel, family, relatives and the general population about the importance of prevention of chronic complications, through the early recognition of Adequate timely and efficient intervention in this group of patients in their lifestyle and the correction of risk factors. The education of the diabetic patient, his family, the general population, the medical, paramedical and multidisciplinary staff, is therefore the fundamental pillar in the prevention of the fatal complications that this pathology involves, taking preventive measures, leading to consistent actions in The promotion of knowledge through adequate information to correct risk factors in an early and timely manner and the implementation of a program of early recognition of these complications by public health institutions, in order to avoid or minimize them to the maximum extent , For the benefit of the diabetic patient, who must accept the incurability of this disease and the seriousness that entails allowing complications to be triggered

Resumen : La Diabetes Mellitus es una enfermedad en la cual tanto factores genéticos cuanto ambientales, se conjugan desencadenando defectos en la secreción y acción de la insulina, produciendo hiperglicemia y alteraciones en el sistema cardiovascular, sistema nervioso, riñón, ojos, metabolismo de los lípidos y otros órganos y al ser un problema importante de salud pública, debido a que es una de las primeras causas de morbimortalidad en los pacientes hospitalizados, por el alto riesgo de complicaciones en la economía humana debido a daño microvascular, se hace imprescindible el reconocer en forma precoz y oportuna a las complicaciones a través de exámenes específicos de screening, capaz de que se impartan medidas tendientes a prevenirlas. Esta investigación se enfoca a determinar los factores que inciden en el incremento de las complicaciones de la Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 en el hospital Guayaquil Dr. Abel Gilbert Pontón en el año 2015-2016. El propósito de la investigación, fue tomar conciencia tanto por parte de la población diabética, cuanto por el personal médico, la familia, los allegados y la población en general sobre la importancia de la prevención de las complicaciones crónicas, mediante el reconocimiento temprano de las mismas, la intervención oportuna adecuada y eficiente, en este grupo de pacientes en su estilo de vida y la corrección de factores de riesgo. La educación tanto del paciente diabético, su familia, la población general, el personal médico, paramédico y multidisciplinario, constituye pues, el pilar fundamental en la prevención de las complicaciones funestas que esta patología encierra, tomando medidas preventivas, que conlleven a acciones consistentes en el fomento de conocimientos mediante una información adecuada que permita corregir los factores de riesgo en forma precoz y oportuna y la aplicación de un programa de reconocimiento temprano de dichas complicaciones, por parte de las instituciones de salud pública, en aras de evitarlas o minimizarlas al máximo, en beneficio del paciente diabético, el mismo que debe aceptar la incurabilidad de esta enfermedad y la gravedad que conlleva el permitir que se desencadenen las complicaciones
