Resumen
A pesar que la mayoría de los niños son excelentes pacientes
odontológicos, su comportamiento es muy variable en el consultorio,
pudiendo observarse manifestaciones diferentes, tales como:
comportamientos agresivos, histéricos e incluso, temerosos y aprensivos.
Por esta razón, en la atención del niño no existen dos casos similares,
cada paciente constituye una peculiaridad, puesto que sus reacciones
tienen que ver con las etapas de crecimiento y desarrollo, las
características de la salud del paciente, las condiciones socio culturales
de los padres y otros elementos que hacen distintas las respuestas de
cada niño en particular.
Existen modelos conceptuales y operativos que orientan el estilo personal
del profesional de la Odontología en el manejo del niño. Cada profesional
adoptará y desarrollará la técnica más adecuada en función de las
características del medio ambiente que lo rodea.
El propósito de este trabajo es el dar a conocer algunas técnicas que
debe poner en práctica el odontólogo para la compresión y manejo de la
conducta del niño, con el fin de facilitar el tratamiento del paciente a la
consulta odontológica. Entre esas técnicas se mencionan: métodos
afectivos en el manejo de la comunicación, el cual aparece en la guía de
la Academia Americana de Odontopediatría, también se reseñan otros
métodos, como el manejo de la conducta con imágenes visuales,
modelamientos, entre otras.
No obstante, cabe señalar, que no existen fórmulas mágicas, ni recetas
prefabricadas en el manejo de la conducta del niño en la relación
triangular odontólogo-niño-padre. Sin embargo, tiene especial influencia
en esta relación: la experiencia, el conocimiento bio-sicosocial del
paciente, así como también, el grado de sensibilización y humanización
del profesional de la Odontología.

There are conceptual and operational models that guide personal style Dentistry professional in handling the child. each professional adopt and develop the most appropriate technique based on the features of the environment that surrounds it. The purpose of this paper is to present some techniques that should implement the dentist for compression and management child's behavior in order to facilitate treatment of the patient to dental practice . Such techniques are mentioned : methods affective in managing communication, which appears in the guide American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry , also outlined other methods, such as behavior management with visual images , modelamientos , among others. However, it should be noted that there are no magic formulas or recipes prefabricated in managing the child's behavior in the relationship triangular dentist - father - child . However, it has special influence in this relationship : the experience , knowledge of the bio- psychosocial patient , as well as the awareness and humanization Professional Dentistry.
