Resumen
Uno de los mayores problemas de salud no resueltos en las personas con capacidades diferentes es la atención dental, dentro de los factores que influyen para que estos pacientes no reciban una adecuada atención encontramos principalmente la falta de información y temor de los padres, así como el desinterés y poca información de los profesionales de la salud en cuanto a la importancia de la salud bucal, a veces parece ser que consideran innecesario el tratamiento dental.
Estos pacientes generalmente presentan alteraciones bucales muy importantes que al no ser atendidos desencadenan otros problemas que repercuten negativamente en su salud general.
Se debe tomar en cuenta que la visita desde los primeros meses de vida del paciente con el odontólogo traerá grandes beneficios en su salud bucal, este proyecto le dará toda la información acerca de los cuidados y las diferentes formas de efectuar un cepillado diario correcto y adecuado a la edad y condición de cada paciente y detectar a tiempo cualquier alteración que se pudiera presentar en la boca de ellos.
Es importante establecer un programa de higiene oral individual, ya que de acuerdo a la discapacidad y al grado de cooperación podremos definir qué tipo de cuidado estableceremos con cada paciente.
