The objective of this thesis is to assess the risks in the production of acetylene gas and propose preventive actions and remedial action to improve working conditions and reduce or eliminate risks encountered. The production processes are analyzed by applying methodologies of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Safety and are: Fine Method, Risk and Method Panorama Gretener. The study determined that there are different types of risks in each operation being the most important in the existing production of acetylene and cylinder filling by unsuitable equipment for use in environments explosives, lack of staff training and operation machines manually. To identify the Pareto accidents and common diseases such as: involvement in pathways respiratory, eye and skin irritation by particulate matter and handling chemicals without proper personal protective equipment, and the lack of a turner to lift cans carbide. With the method Gretener safety levels was evaluated resulting existing safety index <1 showing that the facilities are insufficiently protected fire. The proposals are: The acquisition of lamps and tecle suitable for explosive environments, automation equipment CLASS I production materials, the construction of a machine turner and a beam power of calcium carbide acetylene generator, training of personnel working in different areas and improved fire control system. Investment proposal amounted to $ 67,490.34. The estimated loss if an accident is $ 202,557.44. Determining the coefficient Benefit / cost gives results that for every dollar they invest receive $ 3, which indicates economic feasibility.
