An in vitro qualitative and quantitative experimental study was performed with forty-two dental pieces that underwent cervical restorations, 21 corresponded to the glass ionomer and the other 21 to the composite resin, to determine the pigmentation susceptibility of the restorations. We expose them to three pigmenting substances: red wine, coffee and soda. The results reported by the CIE L * a * b * were obtained through the Photoshop digital program, before and after immersing the samples for 7 days, changing the pigmenting solutions every 24 hours; the calculation of CIE2000 was carried out using the formula Delta E, in order to determine the changes in the color of the samples after being submerged in the pigmenting substances. The statistical analysis and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the results was developed, concluding that there are significant statistical differences so far in the pigmentation of the cervical restorations between the Vitremer glass ionomer and the composite resin Z250 XT, in the Tukey comparison test the Z250 XT was more effective against the pigmentation of the three pigmenting substances, with an average of 13.89 versus 14.27 of the Vitremer. It was also shown that the pigmenting substances: red wine, coffee and cola can cause marked pigmentation changes exceeding the limit of 3.5 Delta E where the changes are perceptible to the human eye and it was found that the substance that produces the most pigmentation in the restorations It was red wine.
