Resumen
El edentulismo es una enfermedad muy común, que en la actualidad ha ido aumentando su incidencia debido a diversos factores como la caries dental, la enfermedad periodontal, enfermedades sistémicas y algunos medicamentos que producen características bucales que eventualmente producen pérdida de piezas dentales, llegando hasta modificar hábitos en la dieta, alteraciones psicológicas, problemas digestivos y del habla que a su vez plantea una problemática compleja en su tratamiento. Las prótesis dentales deben ser consideradas como un medio para llegar a un fin, lo cual es la rehabilitación del sistema estomatognático y devolver la estética y funcionalidad de cada paciente de forma individual de acuerdo a cada caso clínico que se presente. Todo tratamiento debe estar apegado a un buen diagnóstico y plan de tratamiento para asegurar el éxito de la futura prótesis parcial metálica removible. En el presente proyecto de titulación hacemos una amplia revisión bibliográfica que nos indica el soporte científico que podemos aplicar clínicamente y la secuencia de dicho plan de tratamiento en pacientes edentulos parciales y la importancia de la comunicación del odontólogo con el técnico dental para brindar un servicio de calidad al paciente. Pero también debemos de tener en cuenta que hay muchas variables al considerar el pronóstico del paciente rehabilitado dependiendo del tipo de pacientes, la disponibilidad y aceptación del paciente al tratamiento. Por ello, en la actualidad la mayor problemática es llegar al resultado final, que es recuperar la función masticatoria, fonética y estética, mediante la fabricación de una prótesis parcial removible metálica.
Edentulism is a very common disease which, at present, has been increasing its incidence due to various factors such as dental caries, periodontal disease, systemic diseases and some medications that produce oral characteristics that eventually lead to the loss of teeth. Even modifying habits in the diet, psychological alterations, digestive and speech problems can complicate treatment. Dental prostheses should be considered as a means to reach an end, which is the rehabilitation of the stomatognathic system and return the aesthetics and functionality of each patient, according to each clinical case that is presented. All treatment must be attached to a good diagnosis plan to ensure the success of the future removable metal partial prosthesis. In the present project of titration we make an extensive bibliographical review that indicates the scientific support that we can apply clinically and the sequence of such treatment plan in partial edentulous patients and the importance of the dentist's communication with the dental technician to offer a service of quality to the patient. But we must also bear in mind that there are many variables when considering the prognosis of the rehabilitated patient depending on the type of patients, the availability and acceptance of the patient to the treatment. Therefore, at present the biggest problem is to reach the final result, which is to recover the masticatory, phonetic and aesthetic function, by manufacturing a removable partial metal prosthesis.
