The objective of the study was to evaluate the acute oral toxicity of the mucilages obtained from Malva sylvestris and Malva pseudolavatera leaf extracts. For the study; 8 groups of mice were used and one of control without treatment of 5 females each, the doses administered were 2000, 300, 50 and 5 mg / Kg. The initial weight was recorded, at seven and fourteen days after administration, daily water consumption was taken, balanced and the presence of toxic signs; according to OECD 420 guide. The results in the first four hours of observation (post administration) it was observed that at the dose (2000mg / kg) of both extracts; 2 of the 5 mice presented, grooming, soft stools and urine of the color of the extract during the first hour. After this time these signs disappeared. At lower doses the animals did not show any sign and in terms of body weights, food and water consumption did not show significant differences between the groups. According to histopathological analyzes of the organs taken (kidney, liver and stomachs), no tissue damage was observed and they presented a structure similar to normal control in all groups at the doses tested. In histopathology, the appearance of slight lesions in the organs is indicative that the functioning of the organism is subject to substances that accelerate its metabolism, therefore it is the possible vascular congestion in livers and kidneys.
