With the aim of knowing better the correlation between journalistic content and the promotion of the use of bicycles as a means of transport in cities, this research was proposed, within the framework of the Master in Communication, with a mention in Social Development Policies, from the University of Guayaquil. The objective was to show how the knowledge of journalists on the subject influences the elaboration of these publications, and how mediations between the media and the audience are reflected in the perception of people who move by bicycle, who are activists to favor of its massive use, and in turn consume the content of El Universo. For this, a methodology was proposed that included the analysis of journalistic publications and interviews with editors of the communication medium and journalists who participate in the preparation of these contents. The first chapter of this work brings us closer to the role of the media, the challenges of cities and the importance of bicycles for mobility, caring for the environment, public health, and so on. In addition, it provides background information on the public bicycle project presented by the Municipal Transit Authority (ATM) in 2018. The second chapter discusses structuralism and how it helps us understand the structure of processes, in this case communicative. Topics such as agenda setting and mediations are mentioned. Concepts such as the mobility pyramid and the challenge of cities to stop dependence on motorized vehicles are also discussed.
