For many years, plants have been used for their fungal and bacterial properties, and alternative treatments to chemically synthesized drugs have even been developed with them. Currently they have multiple uses such as medicinal, food, antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, among others. In this work, the antibacterial and antifungal properties of Vernonanthura patens and Kalanchoe pinnata were evaluated, carrying out several tests that allowed us to know the secondary metabolites present in them, whose characteristics allow them to control some types of bacteria and fungi. The phytochemical evaluation was carried out by the Domínguez method. Total phenols and flavonoids tests were performed by the Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride methods, respectively. Two bacteria were evaluated for biological activities: Pseudomonas sp. and E.coli, and for the antifungal test, Fusarium sp.. Three treatments were carried out with the extracts of the two plant species, the concentrations were (500 ppm, 600 ppm, 700 ppm). The most effective extract was that of V. patens, since its concentration of total phenols was 109.68 ± 0.32 mg GAE/g of extract, and its concentration of total flavonoids was 681.2 ± 5.66 mg. EC/g of extract; in the antifungal test there was inhibition from 500 ppm and the antibacterial test its concentration at 700 ppm performed better than the positive control against Pseudomonas sp. Therefore, field tests are suggested, especially for plants with bacterial disease problems and fungal.
