Hand hygiene is a preventive measure against the transmission of nosocomial diseases and infections, from this point of view the nursing staff must apply it frequently, complying with at least the five established moments. The main objective of this research was to describe the perception of the nursing professional regarding compliance with hand hygiene protocols at the Dr Francisco de Icaza Bustamante Children's Hospital, period 2021-2022. To achieve this, a qualitative methodology was used based on the execution of surveys, interviews and observation sheets, in order to describe a social phenomenon and evaluate the perception of nurses and nursing assistants. The most relevant results within the study were that all the participants know about the importance of hand hygiene, but they do not have the materials, supplies, spaces and sufficient time to carry it out effectively. Another of the results that was evidenced was that nursing graduates comply in a greater proportion with the measures for correct hand washing compared to nursing assistants. Also, a high number of those evaluated indicated hand hygiene as a mandatory measure, which must be complied with due to responsibility, so no incentive should be expected. The study concludes that nursing professionals are aware of the importance of proper hand hygiene, as well as the responsibility they have with patients and with their own health, therefore, they are aware that hand washing it is a preventive measure.
