presentan mal oclusiones transversales.
The transversal malocclusions are an anomaly that display in the mouth from early ages. They are from a multi-factorial origin and they are established in different ways. It is important to mention that our population, being of a multi-racial origin, is involved in the several types of malocclusions. Nowadays, there are several orthodontic techniques which are applied to patients who present transversal malocclusions. Among one of them is the quad hélix and nitinol-opened arches of 0.016. According to this, we have to indicate the functioning of each one of the elements. The quad hélix, because their main action is done through the vestible of the dentoalveolar maxillary processes and, in a secondary way, at a level of suture palatine to perform an expanding on this level. A nitinol-opened arch of 0.016 is an ally that has the great capacity of recovering the initialo position. In other words, it has a great memory and, for this, it is applied over the braces moving the dental pieces to recover the wire’s shape. This produces inclination of the dental coronary and, for that reason, vestibularing of the teeth. It is important tonote that the arch of nitinol opened produces a little movement of the dental alveolar maxilla process. From the results, we observe that the quad hélix is beyond a doubt an effective device to achieve the expansión of the dental arch for the great elasticity that characterizes it. The activations can be done more spaced. It is an hygienic ,aesthetic device and wellaccepted by the patients. Although it is typical of the Bioprogessive Technique of Ricketts, it is used in all the fixed modern orthodontic techniques. Also, it fulfills other functions such as rotating molars, vestibularing incisive, correcting in crossed-bitten uni or bilateral, control of habits and anchoring among other functions.
