ntroduction: Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix, which is located in the cecum (the portion where the large intestine begins). The diagnosis of acute appendicitis is clearly based on clinical symptoms and signs; pain is the main clinical symptom of this pathology. The most common complication of appendectomy is the infection of the surgical wound is why to reduce the incidence of this, you should make a very rigorous surgical technique and helps this minor complication the use of antibiotic prophylaxis. Ripasa and Alvarado scales, are useful tools for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, methods that are valid and must go hand in hand with the correct reasoning of the surgeon, who decides on the best treatment for the patient. Materials and Method: We performed a retrospective, cross-sectional observational study in which the efficacy of Ripasa scale versus the Alvarado score in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis compared Results: we found greater sensitivity and specificity of the Ripasa scale, and statistically significant differences to compare both tools.Because the data found in this research, the assessment of these patients is a fundamental fact in their treatment, and the use of these methods that directs to decrease the number of patients operated on unnecessarily and late diagnoses that threaten the safety of patient.
