Resumen
Los mantenedores de espacio son la aparatología más utilizadas para la prevención de la migración de piezas dentarias, debido a los diferentes factores etiológicos como la caries dental y extracciones prematuras a temprana edad, el objetivo de nuestro estudio fue conservar el espacio dentario evitando maloclusiones futuras en pacientes de 8 años de edad, para la realización del caso se atendió una paciente que perdió prematuramente la pieza 75, se realizó el diagnóstico clínico se tomó modelos de estudios para la confección del mantenedor y se procedió a la confección del mismo luego colocamos el mantenedor de espacio en la cavidad bucal de la paciente, también se dio la respectiva charla de concientización sobre la técnica de higiene para el cuidado de las piezas dentarias, y se le enseño el cuidado que debe tener con el aparato ortodóntico, y obtuvimos como resultado, que el mantenedor de espacio cumplió el propósito esperado durante un periodo de 4 meses, cuando la pieza dental permanente hizo su aparición se procedió al retiro del aparato, la paciente correctamente motivada fue muy colaboradora siguiendo las recomendaciones dadas durante el tratamiento, es importante que se realice un control periódico al paciente ya que se debe retirar el mantenedor de espacio cuando empiece a erupcionar la pieza dental permanente, ya que al no hacerlo ocurrirá movimiento de la pieza que contiene el aparato, para el éxito del tratamiento se recomienda que el paciente tenga una buena higiene dental, y predisposición para obtener los resultados deseados.
