is common to all tissues removed in surgery are sent to Pathology Service for study, but not so with the placenta, it is generally considered that does not provide useful information to the obstetrician and discarded once confirmed its integrity. Due to advances in the pathophysiology of multiple maternal and fetal abnormalities, the study of the placenta is gaining new importance, especially with regard to subclinical chorioamnionitis and its relationship to preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, fetal hypoxia chronic and cerebral palsy. The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical correlation and placental pathological findings in patients with preterm rupture of membranes. This project is a descriptive and correlational and retrospective design from 1 January 2009 until 31 December 2011. With the results obtained, it seeks to highlight the information provided by the histopathology of the placenta in selected cases of maternal or fetal complications for management protocols in patients with ruptured membranes
