Cavities is described as a multifactorial disease since it is related to many risk factors among populations of different ages. The objective of this study is to determine the level of knowledge of mothers concerning the cariogenic diet as cavities- risk in children from 1 to 5 years of age of the “Mariana de Jesus” foundation, located in the “Flor de Bastion” Block 15 in Guayaquil. This research corresponds to a qualitativequantitative, descriptive, field, documentary, and cross-sectional study in a population of 20 children of both sexes from the first to the fifth year of their birth. The survey is carried out on the mothers with a fifteen-question form to evaluate the mothers' knowledge about the cariogenic diet, oral hygiene and about preventive measures. Findings suggest that the level of knowledge of the mothers about the cariogenic diet as cavities risk is deficient, according to the results obtained in the survey carried out it can be collected that the children of the analyzed population have a high risk of cavities due to the ignorance of mothers and the high daily consumption of cariogenic foods that influence the appearance of dental cavities, thus corroborating the hypothesis
