Resumen
El sector de La Bahía es para la ciudad de Guayaquil un nodo comercial y conlleva dificultades. La etapa investigativa demostró los problemas sociales, culturales y funcionales del sector. La Bahía fue denominada así por la ciudadanía en 1944. Comerciantes minoristas de la parroquia Olmedo, se establecieron en 20 cuadras limitadas por las calles Eloy Alfaro, Chiriboga, Chimborazo y Ayacucho.
La caminabilidad de este sector se ve afectada por la alta demanda de sus peatones cuando circulan entre las islas comerciales y soportales. Además, hay altas temperaturas en el sector, delincuencia e inseguridad, así como desperdicios de restos comerciales y alimenticios generados por las actividades de las islas comerciales y peatones que dificultan la circulación. La caminabilidad del sector también se ve afectada por barreras a lo largo de las calles.
Por todos estos aspectos se propone mejorar su caminabilidad apropiándose de espacios en conflicto o privatizados. Enfatizando en este sentido, es posible identificar un eje vial de conflicto. Mediante el uso de estrategias urbanas establecidas en el proyecto y bajo el concepto de caminabilidad mejorada, se propone un boulevard peatonal, entre otras estrategias. Este limitará su uso por periodos de tiempo durante la jornada laboral común. Así mismo, se contemplan espacios para actividades compartidas tomando como referencia la actividad comercial existente y agregándole áreas de descanso y recreación, mejorando su imagen.
La Bahía sector presents to Guayaquil city as a commercial node and entails operational difficulties. The research demonstrates La Bahía social, cultural and functional problems. It was named after citizen’s choice since 1944, by a group of retailers within the Olmedo parish. They were finally located in 20 blocks limited by Eloy Alfaro, Chiriboga, Chimborazo and Ayacucho streets. The walkability of the sector is affected due to high pedestrian demands when circulating in between commercial islands and arcades. In addition, there are high temperatures within the sector, crime and insecurity, as well as commercial and food waste. Barriers along streets also affect walkability. Because of all these aspects, urban regeneration is proposed where pedestrians can improve their walkability and take the conflicted-privatized spaces as their own. Emphasizing this, it is possible to identify a road axis of conflict. Through the use of the proposed urban strategies under the concept of improved walkability, a pedestrian Boulevard among other strategies, will the limit the use of the conflicted road axis for periods of time during common working days. Furthermore, sharing activity spaces are contemplated, taking as a reference existing commercial activity and adding resting and recreational areas, improving its urban image.
