Echinoderms are exclusively marine organisms characterized by pentaradial symmetry, a complete digestive system and an internal skeleton of calcium carbonate; they are one of the most diverse and ecologically relevant groups, as they play important roles in the food web. Within the limits of Santa Elena on the coasts of the Parroquias of Anconcito and Ballenita, a sweep sampling was developed in a space of 200 m2, from April to June 2024, on a monthly basis. During the sampling period, 13 species of echinoderms were identified in Anconcito and 8 species in Ballenita, distributed in 4 classes within the Phylum (Asteroidea, Ophiuroidea, Echinoidea and Holothuroidea), from which a taxonomic key was elaborated and detailed descriptions were provided for each of them. The class Ophiuroidea was the most representative in both study areas throughout the quarter followed by the Echinoidea, within these classes the most relevant species were Ophiocoma aethiops and Echinometra vambrunti, respectively. These results contribute to the updating of knowledge on the diversity and abundance of echinoderms in the province of Santa Elena.
