The objective of this research is to analyze the impacts on production costs and natural resources, of the use of the chemical package in rice production in the Guayas Province. For that reason, we have started from the approach that gives us the ecological economy, who criticizes conventional economics because it conceives the economic system as a closed system. At a time when the degeneration of the environment and the depletion of important non-renewable resources are due to the intensity of economic activities, the ecological economy approach that argues that economic systems are strongly related to other systems is strongly evident, therefore they are open systems. In the case of rice production this approach can be useful because the application of the chemical package since the 70s in order to raise productivity has impacted both costs and environmental degradation, especially rivers. The is exposed in four chapters: First, it explains the research proposal, then the debate between the ecological and conventional economic theories. The third chapter is about the methodology used. Finally, in the results, the significant weight of the rice production of Guayas in the national production is shown, the factors that affected the application of the chemical package for the rice production, the main chemical used by the rice farmers and the impacts in costs and the environment that produces this practice, leaving posed the need for policies that strengthen initiatives for the use of organic inputs
