- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoCritical thinking development through reading comprehension strategies(Universidad de Guayaquil Facultad de filosofía, Letras y Ciencias de la Educación, 2015) Alvarado Aroca, Angie Mayra; Noboa Cruz, Patricia Tamara; Sánchez Ávila, AlfonsoReading is one of the most important skills of a foreign language; it is a receptive language process in which the reader constructs ideas. There is thus an essential interaction between language and thought in reading. It is also a complex interaction between the text and the reader which is shaped by the reader’s prior knowledge, experiences, attitude, and language community which is culturally and socially situated. The reading process requires continuous practice, development, and refinement. Critical thinking as well requires the ability to recognize problems, to find workable means for meeting those problems, to gather pertinent information, to recognize unstated assumptions and values, to comprehend and use language with accuracy, clarity, and discrimination, to interpret data, to evaluate arguments, to draw warranted conclusions and generalizations, to put to test the conclusions and generalizations at which one arrives, to reconstruct one's patterns of beliefs on the basis of wider experience, and to render accurate judgments about specific things and qualities in everyday life. For that reason we decided the following topic for our educational project: Critical Thinking Development through Reading Comprehension Strategies and the proposal: Application of a Booklet with Motivational Techniques and Exercises because we wanted to determine the incidence of applying reading comprehension strategies and motivational techniques to promote critical thinking on the students of 7th grade of basic education at escuela fiscal mixta “ANA JOSEFINA SALAZAR DIAZ".
