- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoInfluence of the gamification techniques in the speaking skills(Universidad de Guayaquil. Facultad de Filosofía, Letras y Ciencias de la Educación, 2020-10) Rodríguez Vásquez, Jailene Lissette; Sánchez Moncada, Yuri Vanessa; Sánchez Pérez, LucilaThe present study was carried out to Eight Grade of General Basic Education students at “Pablo Hannibal Vela Eguez” Public High School during the 2020– 2021 school year. Initially, the researchers applied a class observation to examine and identify the main issue inside the classroom. The problem turned evident when students tried to participate in short conversations on very familiar topics within the personal and educational domains, this fact revealed that students were struggling with oral production during speaking tasks. In addition, techniques and instruments applied for data collection process and its later analysis confirmed that despite the efforst made by the EFL teacher, some students felt limited and not confident enough to participate in speaking tasks inside the EFL classroom. In order to help teacher and students to overcome the problem, articles and books were reviewed by the researchers to gain a better comprehension of the issue. The research done led to different theories, strategies and techniques that highlighted the use of gamification activities to improve speaking learning. Gamification technique supports the relevance of the use of game elements as teaching resource to strengthen students’ language skills. Based on the bibliographic study, survey applied to the students and an interview to the EFL teacher, the researchers came to suggest the use of a system of gamification activities as a didactic material for teachers to create a friendly class ecology to boost students’ self- confidence and participation during speaking skill tasks and as a result the development of oral production.
