The canine teeth are considered important for the system stomatognatic , being essential for lateral movements and vital to the continuity of the dental arches , responsible for function and occlusal harmony . Its proper position in the arch ensures a good outline of the face and acceptable aesthetics of teeth , has two faces, one that keeps the incisors and one that aligns with the back teeth. The retention of canines is a defect in which the tooth is prevented from erupting by either bone or teeth adjacent . This retention may be considered when the eruption has delayed and there is clinical or radiographic evidence of which will not take place , after the third molars the maxillary canine is the most frequently retained appearing more frequently in the palatal aspect and being much more common than bilateral unilateral retention. The prognosis for canine retained move depends on a variety of factors such as the retained position the tooth in relation to the teeth adjacent , angle , distance the tooth must be moved, root laceration and possible presence of ankylosis or resorption radicular Analyzing the above and based on these concepts this documentary research aims to collect, organize , analysis and interpretation of information related to the generality of retained canines its etiology , diagnosis, and mainly processing thereof .
