The objective of this research was to establish the prevalence of Ancylostoma caninum in dogs in the parish of Chongón, Guayaquil. Under a cross-sectional study design with a non-probabilistic sampling by convenience, 50 fecal samples were collected and a structured questionnaire was applied as a data collection instrument. The direct coproparasitic method, flotation and sedimentation by centrifugation were used to confirm Ancylostoma caninum eggs using the Baerman method. The data were evaluated using SPSS software version 26. The results showed that 24 of the samples were positive, giving a prevalence of 48% CI95%: (34.15 - 61.85) of Ancylostoma caninum in fecal samples from canines in the parish of Chongón. The prevalence of infestation was found to be significantly associated (p < 0.05) with the place of origin, sex and deworming of the animal. In conclusion, the findings of relatively high prevalence of Ancylostoma caninum in a canine population, in street conditions and with limited access to antiparasitic treatments may represent a potential risk for the health of other animals including humans; this shows that a joint and multidisciplinary work with scientific support may be the answer to prevent and control this canine ancylostomiasis.
