Resumen
Hay un entendimiento de la caries dental como un proceso de
enfermedad que se inicia desde la aparición de microporosidades, como
un resultado de la desmineralización, por lo tanto, se ha incrementado la
preocupación sobre el rol de la prevención para detener la caries.
La técnica del sellado, cuando se emplea paralelamente con flúor, puede
presentar un gran efecto en la reducción del índice de caries oclusal.
Los sellantes son beneficiosos porque actúan como una barrera
protectora en las fosas y hendiduras naturales del esmalte, las cuales
están fuera del alcance de las cerdas del cepillo dental, contra los
microorganismos y sus productos que pueden atacar a los dientes y
causar la caries. Es importante señalar que los sellantes de fosas y
fisuras no son sólo para los niños, sino para pacientes de cualquier edad
así y algunos casos los sellantes pueden ayudar a proteger los dientes
que no están limpiándose constantemente porque el paciente no es capaz
de hacer un trabajo minucioso, para poder mantener una boca saludable.

Importantly pit and sealants cracks are not just for children but for patients of any age and sealants and some cases can help protect teeth that are not constantly wiping because the patient is unable to do a thorough job in order to maintain a healthy mouth.
