Construcción del Discurso Periodístico en el Diario El Universo durante el Período de Emergencia Sanitaria 2020-1

La emergencia sanitaria, desde una perspectiva académica, ha traído consigo un sin
número de temas que son de gran relevancia para investigaciones dentro de las ciencias sociales
y, por tanto, la sociología misma. Siendo esto lo que ha incentivado el planteamiento del
presente problema.
La meta de esta investigación será ver los procesos del discurso del Diario El Universo en
la construcción de sentidos frente a la pandemia del COVID-19. Con este fin, la pregunta de
investigación es ¿Cómo se construyeron los sentidos sobre la pandemia del COVID-19 durante
los meses de marzo-junio 2020 en el Diario El Universo? Para de esta forma, intentar analizar el
fondo y la forma del discurso del diario.
Para poder responder nuestra interrogante sustentamos nuestro trabajo en un enfoque
general, la biopolítica, perteneciente al filósofo francés Foucault. Adicional recurrimos a Silvia
Gutiérrez para tratar metodológicamente el estudio, mediante la implementación de un
esquema analítico de las características de la construcción de un discurso.
El carácter exploratorio de nuestro estudio, nos permitió descubrir cómo el discurso del
medio tradicional analizado posee ciertas características ideológicas de derecha-conservador,
mismas que se encuentras alineadas a la municipalidad de Guayaquil, de forma que el diario
articulará un discurso basándose en las tesis de locutores legitimados, quienes representan
autoridad dentro del contexto actual de la emergencia sanitaria, adicional, mediante la
utilización de paratexto llamativo y aspectos materiales muy marcados, el diario construirá su
discurso para la legitimización de políticas públicas orientadas a la gestión.
The health emergency, from an academic perspective, has brought with it a number of
issues that are of great relevance for research within the social sciences and, therefore, sociology
itself. This is what has encouraged the approach of the present problem.
The objective of this study is to determine how the discourse of the newspaper El
Universo was articulated in the construction of meanings in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic
during the months of March-June 2020. To this end, the research question is: How were the
meanings about the COVID-19 pandemic constructed during the months of March-June 2020 in
the Diario El Universo? In this way, we try to analyze the content and form of the newspaper's
discourse.
In order to answer our question, we base our work on a general approach, biopolitics,
belonging to the French philosopher Foucault. In addition, we resorted to Silvia Gutiérrez to
methodologically address the study, through the implementation of an analytical scheme of the
characteristics of the construction of a discourse.
The exploratory nature of our study allowed us to discover how the discourse of the
traditional media analyzed has certain right-wing-conservative ideological characteristics, which
are aligned with the municipality of Guayaquil, so that the newspaper will articulate a discourse
based on the theses of legitimized speakers, who represent authority within the current context
of the health emergency. In addition, through the use of striking paratext and very marked
material aspects, the newspaper will construct its discourse for the legitimization of public
policies aimed at the management of life, the biological processes of man and ensure its
regulation.
