| dc.description.abstract | A medida que uno se hace mayor, resulta aún más importante cuidar los dientes y la salud bucodental. Una idea errónea generalizada es que es inevitable perder los dientes. Si se cuidan correctamente, los dientes pueden durar toda la vida. La boca cambia a medida que se envejece. Los nervios de los dientes pueden hacerse más pequeños, con lo que los dientes son menos sensibles a la caries u otros problemas. Si no se hace revisiones dentales con regularidad, esto podría llevar a su vez a que los problemas no se diagnostiquen hasta que sea demasiado tarde. El objetivo es identificar el estado de salud bucal, las prácticas de autocuidado, la calidad de los materiales utilizados y el uso de los servicios de salud de las personas adultas mayores que asisten a la facultad. El énfasis de la odontología ha cambiado en los últimos 20 años en el sentido de intentar conservar la dentición natural, y esto sugiere un incremento en el número de tratamientos endodóncicos realizados en las personas de edad. La longevidad hace que hayan sufrido una mayor patología dental, con grandes restauraciones y problemas periodontales, que pueden tener un efecto adverso sobre los tejidos pulpares y periodontales, lo que conducirá a un mayor número de lesiones y una patología irreversible. En el paciente anciano sabemos que uno de los principales criterios de éxito es el mantenimiento de una dentición natural, sana y funcional a lo largo de la vida, incluyendo todos los beneficios, sociales y biológicos, tales como la estética, el confort y la capacidad para masticar, saborear y hablar. El paciente anciano sólo aceptará las extracciones cuando no exista otra alternativa. Sus expectativas de una asistencia médica de calidad serán paralelas a una salud dental de igual calidad. | es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | As one grows older, it is even more important to take care of teeth and oral health. A general misconception is that it is inevitable to lose your teeth. It is not true. If they are properly cared for, the teeth can last a lifetime. The mouth changes as you get older. The nerves of the teeth can be made smaller, making the teeth less sensitive to decay or other problems. If dental check-ups are not done regularly, this could lead to problems not being diagnosed until it is too late. The objective of this research is to identify the state of oral health, self-care practices, the quality of the materials used and the use of health services of the elderly who attend the faculty. The emphasis of dentistry has changed in the last 20 years in the sense of trying to preserve the natural dentition, and this suggests an increase in the number of endodontic treatments performed on the elderly. The longevity means that they have suffered a greater dental pathology, with major restorations and periodontal problems, which can have an adverse effect on the pulpal and periodontal tissues, which will lead to a greater number of injuries and an irreversible pathology. In the elderly patient we know that one of the main success criteria is the maintenance of a natural, healthy and functional dentition throughout life, including all the social and biological benefits, such as aesthetics, comfort and ability to chew, savor and talk.
