Puesta en valor del patrimonio arquitectónico para el bienestar social: alojamiento temporal en la antigua cárcel municipal

Resumen
La Antigua Cárcel Municipal de Guayaquil, inaugurada en 1905 y actualmente designada como patrimonio, destaca por su relevancia como una innovación constructiva de la época. Sin embargo, en la actualidad, se encuentra en estado de desuso. En las proximidades de este edificio histórico se ubica el área de emergencias del Hospital Luis Vernaza, donde los acompañantes de los pacientes hospitalizados se ven obligados a pernoctar, careciendo de un espacio destinado específicamente a su descanso, y limitándose a un área de espera. En respuesta a esta problemática, se propone la rehabilitación de la Antigua Cárcel Municipal de Guayaquil con el objetivo de abordar estas carencias y satisfacer las necesidades básicas de los familiares, evitando su exposición a una situación de calle temporal, este proyecto busca la puesta en valor del edificio, promoviendo la utilización de este bien patrimonial en beneficio de una causa social.
The Old Municipal Jail of Guayaquil, inaugurated in 1905 and currently designated as a heritage site, stands out for its significance as a constructive innovation of its time. However, at present, it is in a state of disuse. In the vicinity of this historic building is located the emergency area of the Luis Vernaza Hospital, where companions of hospitalized patients are compelled to spend the night, lacking a space specifically designated for their rest, confined to a waiting area. In response to this issue, the rehabilitation of the Old Municipal Jail of Guayaquil is proposed with the aim of addressing these shortcomings and meeting the basic needs of the relatives, avoiding their exposure to a temporary street situation. This project seeks to enhance the value of the building, promoting the use of this heritage property for the benefit of a social cause.
