OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence of decompensated dilated cardiomyopathy and risk factors at the Hospital Abel Gilbert Ponton in 2013-2014. METHOD: For this study included patients who were hospitalized for decompensated dilated cardiomyopathy at the Hospital Abel Gilbert Ponton in 2013-2014, are excluded hospitalized decompensated dilated cardiomyopathy patients without risk factors. And that do not meet the inclusion criteria. The study is descriptive retrospective using information that is in the records of the database service patients seen during the study period, in the Hospital Abel Gilbert Ponton in 2013-2014, the same will be tabulated in charts. RESULTS: during the study period, 142 records were obtained, but according to these inclusion and exclusion criteria were valid only 78 medical records, 30 and 48 stories of 2013-2014 medical records CIE with decompensated dilated cardiomyopathy confirmed. As the male sex was the most affected with 46 cases for both years unlike women with only 32 cases. CONCLUSIONS: Through this project, we established an orderly manner, tabular and true prevalence of decompensated dilated cardiomyopathy in the years 2013 and 2014 which was a total of 78 cases, which were 30 cases in 2013 and 48 cases of 2014.
