Resumen
Se denominan dientes retenidos, incluidos o impactados a aquellos que una vez llegada la época normal de su erupción quedan encerrados dentro de los maxilares y mantienen la integridad de su saco peri coronaria fisiológica Tercer molar inferior izquierdo retenido verticalmente es una de las patologías que con mayor incidencia se encuentran en cirugías orales y maxilofaciales, Las retenciones son causadas posiblemente, por la reducción del tamaño de los arcos dentales, por cambios de hábitos alimentarios, reduciendo el espacio retro molar interrumpiendo así la erupción normal del órgano dental entre 18 y 25 años por lo cual el tratamiento quirúrgico de los terceros molares es la extracción dentaria que con mayor frecuencia se realiza en el campo de la cirugía oral.
