Resumen
La época dorada de la producción del aceite de palma africana en el Ecuador está en riesgo y los más afectados serían los palmicultores, ya que el sector palmicultor no podría competir con los precios internacionales que están muy por debajo del precio local, esto generaría la desmotivación del cultivo de la palma africana, es así que el objetivo de esta investigación fue realizar un análisis del impacto en la producción local de aceite rojo por la tendencia decreciente de su precio a nivel internacional, para lo cual se realizó un análisis correlacional para determinar el coeficiente de Pearson. Se obtuvo un valor negativo de 0,16 entre las variables precio Vs producción, lo cual indica que el precio no afectó la producción de aceite de palma en el Ecuador. Con las variables precio Vs superficie sembrada de palma africana se obtuvo un valor negativo de 0,07, el precio internacional del aceite rojo tampoco afectó este tipo de cultivo, aunque en el año 2015 hubo una reducción del 2% de superficie sembrada de palma africana en el Ecuador en relación a su año anterior. Se recomienda al sector palmicultor optimizar su proceso de extracción del aceite rojo para la disminución de su costo para poder enfrentar a un precio internacional oficial fijado por los grandes productores de aceite rojo a nivel mundial y que mantienen una economía diferente a la del Ecuador.
