en dos paralelos de la Unidad Educativa Fiscal “Guillermo Soto Zatizabal”;
The research topic is focused on the study of reading comprehension skills and their influence on verbal reasoning, considering text comprehension, speed of reading and verbal fluency as primary elements. In order to carry out the field research, 219 basic education students from the 5th, 6th, 7th grades were involved; each grade was distributed in two parallel courses of the Fiscal Education Unit "Guillermo Soto Zatizabal"; which were evaluated using a test of reading skills and levels of verbal reasoning, which lasted 30 minutes and the results obtained imply that there is a 31.93% of the students of the basic average who present a very low level of reading skills and that 46.99% have a poor level of verbal reasoning; Difficulties were observed in understanding and expressing a text. a Methodological Guide of reading skills is designed with the purpose that the teacher can use strategies that motivate students to develop reading habits that will help them to emit a coherent criterion, with the ability to reason logically, improving their academic performance ; and becoming a practical and effective tool for teachers and students
