Resumen
Antecedentes: Los recién nacidos prematuros son aquellos que nacen con menos de 37 semanas de edad gestacional, es decir, de desarrollo dentro del útero. El bajo peso al nacer se define como cualquier nacimiento vivo de peso inferior a 2500 gramos.
Objetivo: Determinar el número de neonatos Pretérminos con bajo peso que se presentaron en el Hospital Universitario de Guayaquil en el periodo 2016-2017.
Materiales y métodos: Estudio observacional, retrospectivo, bibliográfico en que se analizó las historias clínicas del departamento de estadísticas del Hospital Universitario de Guayaquil, Periodo 2016-2017.
Muestra: Incluyó a 124 Neonatos Pretérminos con bajo peso en Hospital Universitario de Guayaquil, Periodo 2016-2017.
Resultados: Los neonatos nacidos a término representaron el 76%, mientras que los recién nacidos pretérmino con bajo peso fueron el 24% del total.

Low birth weight is defined as any live birth weighing less than 2500 grams.
