Postpartum haemorrhage is one of the most feared obstetric complications and is one of the top three causes of maternal mortality in the world. Clinically defined as the blood loss greater than 500 ml after a vaginal delivery or 1000 ml after a cesarean section. The research was carried out with data from Maternidad Matilde Hidalgo de Procel during the period 2015 - 2016 in which a work was done with a universe made up of all the patients who entered the labor and delivery room and the sample was satisfied with the patients who Developed postpartum haemorrhage independently of the birth path and etiology of the same. The prevalence of postpartum hemorrhage was 75% vaginal delivery and 25% cesarean and the main cause of this was uterine atony, there were cases with a lower percentage that presented non-uterine etiologies such as lacerations of the genital tract and the retention of placental remains; The most common risk factors that occurred in this population group were the type of management with either oxytocin or misoprostol, multi or nulliparity, age of presentation, birth route .; Variables such as the intensity with which postpartum bleeding was developed were also analyzed. Therefore, the present scientific investigation aims to reveal the true prevalence of this subject at least in this gynecological health home, its risk factors at the population level in order to propose a more updated knowledge about the reality of this subject that even Remains an important source of maternal morbidity and mortality.
