Estudio y propuesta para reutilización de la edificación de la antigua maternidad Enrique Sotomayor de la ciudad de Guayaquil

Resumen
En el presente trabajo de investigación se realizó el análisis del edificio de la antigua
maternidad Enrique Sotomayor, de la cual se hizo el traspaso de sus funciones al nuevo
hospital Alfredo G. Paulson, ubicado en la ciudadela Atarazana junto al “Hospital del Niño”,
por tal motivo esto causó un deterioro económico y social a la parroquia Bolívar, debido que
esta era el principal motor económico del sector. Se analizó el medio físico e histórico de la
edificación, para la preservación de la edificación se enfocó en los que tenían mayor
relevancia, para su rediseño arquitectónico. Se realizó una arquitectura basada en la
reutilización adaptativa, una arquitectura muy presente en Europa debido a la antigüedad e
importancia de sus edificaciones. Es también factible en nuestro país ya demostrado con
proyectos como el Parque Urbano Cumanda en la ciudad de Quito, que era el antiguo
terminal terrestre de la ciudad, y el Centro de Convenciones Simón Bolívar de Guayaquil,
antiguo aeropuerto de la ciudad. Posteriormente se determinó las nuevas funciones que
debería tener la nueva edificación, otorgándole funciones recreativas, como deportivas y de
esparcimiento; y culturales, como teatro al aire libre, biblioteca, talleres, entre otras. Como
estrategia de funcionalidad para el nuevo equipamiento es generar una interconexión con
el Mercado de artículos Varios, ya que después del abandono a la maternidad este se volvió
el equipamiento principal de la parroquia. Lo que se busca es una reactivación económica y
social del sector otorgando un equipamiento con actividades atractivas al público y que
llamen al turismo interno de la ciudad, brindando oportunidades a los habitantes del sector
de un desarrollo sostenible para su vida.
In the present research work the analysis of the building of the old maternity Enrique Sotomayor was carried out, of which the transfer of its functions was made to the new hospital Alfredo G. Paulson, located in the Atarazana citadel next to the "Hospital del Niño", for this reason this caused an economic and social deterioration to the parish Bolivar, because this was the main economic engine of the sector. The physical and historical environment of the building was analyzed, for the preservation of the building it was focused on those that had greater relevance, for its architectural redesign. An architecture based on adaptive reuse was made, an architecture very present in Europe due to the age and importance of its buildings. It is also feasible in our country already demonstrated with projects such as the Cumanda Urban Park in the city of Quito, which was the old land terminal of the city, and the Simon Bolívar Convention Center in Guayaquil, the old city airport. Subsequently, the new functions that the new building should have were determined, granting recreational functions, such as sports and recreation; and cultural, such as outdoor theater, library, workshops, among others. As a strategy of functionality for the new equipment is to generate an interconnection with the Miscellaneous Items Market, since after abandonment to maternity this became the main equipment of the parish. What is sought is an economic and social reactivation of the sector by providing equipment with attractive activities to the public and calling the internal tourism of the city, providing opportunities to the inhabitants of the sustainable development sector for their life.
