Resumen
La pérdida prematura de dientes temporales es común, siendo la causa más frecuente la caries. Para evitar movimientos indeseables y anomalías dentomaxilares, generalmente es necesario utilizar mantenedor de espacio. El presente estudio como objetivo determinar la necesidad de tratamiento con mantenedores de espacio en perdida prematura en piezas dentarias primarias, así de esta manera evitaremos problemas futuros como maloclusiones, apiñamientos, diastemas, etc. La metodología implementada fue principalmente no experimental y descriptiva, debido a que se procedió a describir el tratamiento del paciente hasta su rehabilitación final. Éste tipo de aparatos mantienen el espacio durante el tiempo suficiente hasta que el diente permanente ya se encuentre formado y empiece su erupción. Existen varios tipos de mantenedores de espacio fijos y removibles, entre los fijos podemos encontrar banda – asa, corona – asa, arco lingual, barra transpalatina, botón de resina y sublingual. Los mantenedores de espacio se utilizan de acuerdo a las indicaciones y limitaciones de cada uno con su control periódico respectivo para evitar desajustes e ir realizando los cambios fisiológicos que vayan hasta el momento.
Premature loss of temporary teeth is common, cavities being the most frequent cause. To avoid undesirable movements and dentomaxillary abnormalities, it is necessary to use a space maintainer. This study aims to determine the need for treatment with space maintainers in premature loss of primary teeth to avoid future problems such as malocclusions, crowding, diastema, etc. The methodological design corresponds to a non-experimental and descriptive study because the patient's treatment is described until its final rehabilitation. Findings suggest that space maintainers keep space for long enough until the permanent tooth is already formed and its eruption begins. Furthermore, there are several types of fixed and removable space maintainers, among the fixed ones we can find band - handle, crown - handle, lingual arch, transpalatine bar, resin button and sublingual. In all, space maintainers are used according to the indications and limitations of each one with their respective periodic control to avoid mismatches and to make the physiological changes that go so far.
