Resumen
Las caries dentales es una de las enfermedades más comunes seguida de la
periodontitis, la organización mundial de la salud (OMS) indica que alrededor de un
90 % de personas en el mundo incluyendo a niños de edad escolar han presentado
caries dentales. Este estudio tiene como objetivo determinar la prevalencia de caries
en estudiantes de 8 a 12 años de la Escuela “Víctor Hugo Mora ” en el año 2019-
2020.
Método: Cuantitativo, diseño transversal y de campo.
Resultados: Estos datos dieron como prevalencia de caries en niños con resultados
de mayor relevancia al sexo masculino con un porcentaje del 66%, caso contrario que
el sexo femenino fue de un 34%.
Conclusión: en niños de edad escolar de la unidad educativa “Víctor Hugo Mora
Barrezueta” la prevalencia de caries fue de mucha preocupación, las piezas en la que
se encontró más prevalencia de caries fueron la 36, 46, 55, 26, 16, ordenadas en
secuencia según el porcentaje más alto. El sexo masculino fue el más afectado por
caries debido al factor de la mala higiene bucal. Concluyendo que el sexo masculino
tiene más prevalencia en cuanto a caries dentales, la falta de control y de información
sobre higiene bucal en los niños de la unidad educativa “Víctor Hugo Mora
Barrezueta” que participaron en la investigación, es mala y deficiente. Al no saber
cuántas veces al día deben cepillarse los dientes y con que frecuencia lo tienen que
hacer y la técnica adecuada del cepillado.
Cavities is one of the most common diseases followed by periodontitis. The World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that about 90% of people in the world, including school-age children, have had tooth decay. This study aims to determine the prevalence of cavities of school-age children between 8 and 12 years of age at "Victor Hugo Mora Barrezueta" Educational Unit during the 2019-2020 academic period. The methodological design corresponds to a quantitative, cross-sectional and field study. Results show prevalence of cavities in children with results of greater relevance on the male sex with 66%, while the female sex, cavities is present in 34%. In conclusion, prevalence of cavities in school children is of great concern; the pieces with high prevalence of cavities are 36, 46, 55, 26, 16 ordered in sequence according to the highest percentage. Male sex was the most affected by cavities due to poor oral hygiene. Needless to say, cavities is more common in the male sex. There is lack of control and information on oral hygiene in children of the educational unit "Víctor Hugo Mora Barrezueta" being assessed as bad and deficient. Children and educators do not have sufficient knowledge on brushing techniques and oral health care.
