Resumen
El objetivo general de la investigación realizada consistió en el análisis de la baja profundización financiera del sistema financiero ecuatoriano durante el periodo 2013-2018. Se enfatizó en la banca privada por ser las instituciones financieras con mayor participación en las actividades de intermediación financiera. La investigación constó de un enfoque mixto y fue de tipo descriptivo y explicativo, con un método analítico-sintético. Al calcular un índice completo de profundización financiera para Ecuador, se obtuvo que este oscila próximo a la media regional, con un ritmo crecimiento estable y robusto, donde la banca y las Cooperativas tienen un rol protagónico. Se determinó mediante un modelo de regresión lineal un alto grado de correlación entre profundización e inclusión financiera, por lo que se concluye a esta última como principal factor que incide sobre el comportamiento de la profundización financiera.
The general objective of the research carried out consisted in the analysis of the low financial depth of the Ecuadorian financial system during the period 2013-2018. Emphasis was placed on private banking as they are the financial institutions with the greatest participation in financial intermediation activities. The research consisted of a mixed approach and was descriptive and explanatory, with an analytical-synthetic method. When calculating a complete financial deepening index for Ecuador, it was obtained that it oscillates close to the regional average, with a stable and robust growth rate, where banks and Cooperatives play a leading role. A high degree of correlation between deepening and financial inclusion was determined by means of a linear regression model, so the latter is concluded as the main factor that influences the behavior of financial deepening.
