Resumen
El propósito de este trabajo de investigación es analizar el potencial que la producción de pitahaya tiene como alternativa para diversificar la oferta exportable ecuatoriana. La metodología aplicada corresponde al enfoque mixto, modalidad documental; la información fue recopilada de fuentes primarias como el MAG, BCE, PROECUADOR, INEC y MPCEIP. Los resultados de esta investigación respaldan a la buena participación que ha tenido la producción, comercialización y exportación de pitahaya en el país ya que, gracias a esta actividad económica, Ecuador se destaca siendo el octavo país a nivel mundial en exportar la fruta hacia los mercados internacionales; además que, en la actualidad, aún resulta insuficiente el aporte y apoyo de las entidades pertinentes hacia el sector productor de pitahaya a nivel nacional. Se concluye que la producción de pitahaya como actividad económica puede otorgar grandes beneficios al Ecuador, siempre y cuando exista un trabajo colaborativo entre productores de todo el país y las instituciones públicas/privadas pertinentes.
