Resumen
La enfermedad periodontal crónica y la diabetes mellitus son las enfermedades más comunes en
la población según la OMS, están dos enfermedades están relacionadas una con la otra, un
paciente dianético no controlado tiene predisposición a desarrollar enfermedad periodontal y más
aún si el paciente tiene hábitos nocivos como fumar cigarro o beber alcohol, más los factores de
tener una mala higiene bucal, dieta no balanceada, sedentarismo. El objetivo de este trabajo es
explicar el comportamiento de la enfermedad periodontal crónica en pacientes diabéticos. El
enfoque utilizado en este trabajo es cualitativo, explicativo con un diseño metodológico
descriptivo, transversal y no experimental. La recolección de la información la obtuvimos de las
fuentes primarias y secundarias de diferentes artículos científicos como como Scielo Revista
Medicina Sur, Medigraphic, Repositorios de la Universidad de San Gregorio en Portoviejo, libro
virtual de Periodontologia e implantología, Repositorios UG. Como resultado se determinó que
un paciente diabético no controlado tiene predisposición a desarrollar enfermedad periodontal
crónica y para obtener una boca saludable debe recibir tratamiento y dejar los hábitos que
perjudiquen a su salud y finalmente se concluyó que hay muchas personas diabéticas que están
desinformadas que se debe crear conciencia en los pacientes de la importancia de controles
médicos y odontológicos para evitar que estas enfermedades se agraven más, el personal de salud
debe estar siempre actualizado para despejar cualquier duda de los pacientes
Chronic periodontal disease and diabetes mellitus are the most common diseases in the population according to the WHO, these two diseases are related to each other, an uncontrolled diabetic patient is predisposed to develop periodontal disease and even more if the patient has harmful habits such as smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol, plus the factors of having a poor oral hygiene, unbalanced diet, sedentary lifestyle. The aim of this work is to explain the behavior of chronic periodontal disease in diabetic patients. The approach used in this work is qualitative, explanatory with a descriptive, transversal and non-experimental methodological design. The collection of information was obtained from primary and secondary sources of different scientific articles such as Scielo Revista Medicina Sur, Medigraphic, Repositories of the University of San Gregorio in Portoviejo, virtual book of Periodontology and implantology, UG Repositories. As a result it was determined that an uncontrolled diabetic patient is predisposed to develop chronic periodontal disease and to obtain a healthy mouth should receive treatment and stop habits that harm their health and finally it was concluded that there are many diabetic people who are uninformed that should create awareness in patients of the importance of medical and dental checkups to prevent these diseases from worsening, health personnel should always be updated to clear any doubts of patients.
