Resumen
Un geriátrico es una institución compuesta por médicos y enfermeros que se ocupa excluyentemente del cuidado y el tratamiento de los individuos ancianos.
Cuando las personas avanzan en edad, su estado de salud se vuelve mucho más frágil, desde lo físico y hasta lo psíquico, requerirá muchas veces de un cuidado especial y muy preciso que a veces la familia no logra brindar o tampoco puede hacerlo. También es una realidad de muchos casos que el médico prescriba al geriátrico como el lugar en el cual el paciente adulto deberá permanecer por su salud y su seguridad, algo que muchas veces no puede lograrse en la casa del paciente si es que este no cuenta con personal idóneo y dedicado a su cuidado. El doble objetivo de su existencia que es brindar cuidados y asistencia a los pacientes durante las 24 horas y fomentar el desarrollo de sus facultades físicas, cognitivas, mentales y emocionales.
Gerontology is a science dedicated to the study of all aspects of age and aging of the population. The purpose of this descriptive and analytical work in the El Morro Parish is that according to the INEC census (2010) in addition to the data obtained from the field study, the elderly residents of the parish report deprivation in 10% of the population. such facilities to meet the needs of this part of the population; Studies have shown that this type of equipment is widely recognized to meet these needs; For this reason, based on criteria obtained through interviews with experts and the analysis of an analogous model of this type of building, the El Morro Parish. The Comprehensive Gerontology Center is dedicated to researching patients and promoting their physical, cognitive, mental, and emotional development
