dc.description.abstract | In the present project of investigation the study of the antibacterial effect of the essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus Labill is carried out in systems of prolonged reléase. A phase diagram was developed to obtain ternary systems based on Tween-80, essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus L. and distilled water, in which it was possible to identify the regions where the nanostructures were formed (microemulsions and liquid crystals). These systems were characterized by a stability study (appearance, color and pH) and polarized light microscopy. It was possible to incorporate 5 to 50 mg of sulfamethoxazole into the microemulsions (ME). Finally, the antibacterial activity of the ME 24, ME 24 *, ME 26 and ME 26 * systems was determined against two strains: Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, of which ME 24 * presented an inhibition halo of 16±1 mm and ME 24 22±1 mm respectively. Both results exceed even the values of the positive control (sulfamethoxazole). The present work constitutes the first report of the potential antibacterial activity of the microemulsions under study | es_ES |
