- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoThe use of the skimming technique in reading skill development.(Universidad de Guayaquil. Facultad de Filosofía, Letras y Ciencias de la Educación, 2022-09) López Miranda, Arly Doménica; Rocafuerte González, Ginger Ximena; Marriott Toledo, Heidi MarlenThis research work was carried out to assess the influence of the use of the Skimming technique in the development of reading ability to improve the deficiencies detected in the reading development of Tenth Grade of Basic General Education students at Unidad Educativa Fiscal “Guayaquil” public school. Initial observations showed that students faced difficulties when finding specific information and main ideas in texts preventing comprehension and requiring multiple and lengthy times to process a text efficiently. The study performed a thorough literature review where the use of the Skimming technique stood out as a possible solution for the problem detected. In addition to this, the research instruments applied corroborated the scarcity of reading techniques use to promote students’ cognitive abilities during reading activities. Therefore, as a measure to improve reading development, the researchers propose the use of a system of reading activities focused on the Skimming technique for A2.1 learners. The proposal aims to enhance students’ reading development by providing a novel and level-specific system of activities based on the use of the Skimming technique that helps them make significant improvement in their linguistic and cognitive reading knowledge and overall understanding of the language while also creating a motivational connection.
