The study is conducted in the public institution Unidad Educativa Fiscal Chongón, Guayaquil, Ecuador, in the school year 2021-2022 being the object of study 2 groups of students in 8th grade of General Basic Education (EGB). After confirming the presence and nature of pronunciation errors through surveys and diagnostic tests the students were submitted to 8 hours crash course focus on the use of explicit phonetics activities compiled in a worksheet to teach students the fundamentals of the English phonological system, the use of the International Phonetic alphabet and the use of phonetic transcription to determine the correct pronunciation of words with silent letters. After the course the student’s pronunciation of 76 words with silent letters was tested again showing an average improvement of 70.89%.
