- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoImpact of the use of verbal tenses to improve the linguistic competence(Universidad de Guayaquil. Facultad de Filosofía, Letras y Ciencias de la Educación, 2017-02) Vera Fuentes, Luis Alberto; Contreras Rosero, Shirley Karina; Avilés ManuelIn today’s education, it is imperative for students to have a common strong base of structure of the language being learned, this case, English. Without structure, there is no reasoning when speaking nor writing, no matter how much vocabulary words a person may know or have. It is imperative for grammar to take place in learning a language. Of course, when learning a language as the main one, such process of grammar is not needed nor enforced, that’s because the natural approach is at hand in which we all acquire the language in a natural way by listening to our parents, repeating the words they say to us and imitating such sound bringing utter understanding with the situation at hand, signs, gestures, facial expressions, body language and constant repetition. However, once we enter the education realm, we are taught about words, subjects, verbs, prepositions, articles, adjectives, adverbs, nouns, irregular verbs, compound nouns, compound subjects, tenses, modals, auxiliaries, subjunctive and other parts of speech. Let’s not even mention punctuation, which is also a vital point when it comes to writing especially. Our project is based on the verbal tenses which objective is to improve the use of such verbal tenses to the students of the 8th grade at Manuela Cañizares Public High School. This guide will provide exercises in the most common and basic tenses in the English language, THE SIMPLE PRESENT AND THE SIMPLE PAST tenses. Those tenses should be adequate enough for students of the 8th grade due to the fact that since English is not their first language, learning the basic tenses will provide a paved road for students to learn the other ten tenses that are part of the English structure, facilitating learning to students and giving them a full nourishment about the language being learned.
