dc.description.abstract	La mortalidad materna es un indicador del estado de salud, el cual refleja el nivel socioeconómico de un país e implícitamente el grado de educación del mismo. En el Ecuador la cifra que provee el Instituto Nacional de Censos (INEC) acerca de mortalidad materna en el año 2009 es 96,3 por 100.000 nacidos vivos y la Organización Mundial de Salud (OMS) en el año 2008 la tasa de mortalidad materna es 140. En este contexto el objetivo de esta investigación es especificar las causas que condujerón a muertes maternas en el Hospital Gineco-Obstetrico Enrique C. Sotomayor entre 2007- 2011. Está investigación es tipo descriptivo y correlacional, de diseño no experimental y retrospectivo. El universo consistieron gestantes ingresadas en el área toco quirúrgico que terminaron en mortalidad materna. La muestra se tomó de los expedientes clínicos de pacientes fallecidas durante su embarazo, parto o dentro de los 42 días del puerperio, por cualquier causa relacionada o agravada, pero no por causas accidentales. Se obtuvo a la hipertensión arterial (30,63%) y la hemorragia (20,72%) como principales factores de riesgos. La tasa de mortalidad materna en el año 2007 fue 95,69 por 100.000 nacidos vivos; 2008 (81,87); 2009 (90,81); 2010 (93,11) y en el año 2011 (74,17). Los resultados obtenidos permitirán contribuir a realizar estudio inicial o de intervención a futuro con la finalidad de mejorar y ofrecer calidad de atención a la comunidad.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	Maternal mortality is an indicator of health status, which reflects the socioeconomic status of a country and implicitly the level of education of the same. In Ecuador, the figure provided by the National Census Institute (INEC) about maternal mortality in 2009 is 96.3 per 100.000 live births and the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2008, the maternal mortality rate 140. In this context the aim of this research is to identify the causes leading to maternal deaths in the Obstetric and Gynecology Hospital Enrique C. Sotomayor from 2007 to 2011. This investigation is a descriptive and correlational, nonexperimental design and retrospective. The universe consisted of pregnant women admitted in the general area that ended in play Surgical mortality. The sample was taken from the clinical records of patients who died during pregnancy, childbirth or within 42 days postpartum, from any cause related to or aggravated, but not from accidental causes. Hypertension (30,63%) and hemorrhage (20,72%) as major risk factors. The maternal mortality rate in 2007 95,69 per 100.000 live births; 2008 (81,87); 2009 (90,81); 2010 (93,11) and 2011 (74,17 ).
